Two days of action against racist press, 2nd-3rd July

Sick of being lied to?

Border controls, detention centres, surveillance cameras, anti-terrorist laws, restrictions on movement, militarisation and never-ending wars… Britain in 2010 is a fortress state much like George Orwell’s 1984. One difference is that the Ministry of Propaganda is now privatised. The mainstream/corporate media manufacture a culture of hatred and fear: fear of migrants, fear of strangers, fear of difference, fear thy neighbour, fear each other. And they do so by twisting facts and recycling politicians’ lies: Migrants are the cause of unemployment and inflation; Muslims are a threat to democracy; Gypsies are stealing ‘our’ land; and so on and so forth. The real causes (profit-driven capitalism and state repression) are sidestepped as irrelevant little details.

Blood is a very special kind of juice.

Vampires and Racism - A talk and film screening @ Rampart Cafe Night, Thursday February 26th, 15 -17 Rampart Street, London E1 2LA

Undead creatures who return from the dead have been part of legends for more then 2000 years. However, some aspects of the vampire legends which are part of our popular culture actually appeared only in the last 150 years. This talk gives an introduction into the historical context of the emerging racist theories in the second half of the 19th century and the development of the modern Dracula legend between the 1850s and 1920s.

Stop Racist Government Attacks on Roma People in Italy

12 Noon Friday 3rd October 2008

Demonstrate at the Italien Tourist Board
1 Princes Street, London W1B 2AY(near Oxford Circus)

Roma people in Italy are facing the worst persecution since the Fascist era. We wish to confront the representatives of the Italian state which is behind this attack. The state’s lies encourage Italians to view Roma as illegal immigrants, as part of a generalized right-wing response to migration into Italy. Whilst we believe anyone should be able to settle wherever they want, it is important to point out the deliberate lies of the Italian government. Roma are not recent arrivals. Many have settled in Italy for 40 years and are Italian citizens. Those who have recently arrived have done so as part of the wider process of perfectly legal and natural economic migration within the EU. Some wish to travel, others wish to settle. They should have the same legal protection as other EU citizens.
