An article by Harmit Athwal at the Institute for Race Relations website reports on the inquest into the death of Sergey Barnanyuk at Harmondsworth detention centre in July 2004. Barnayuk, a construction worker and father from the Ukraine, apparently took his life having been been abandoned in legal limbo in the removal centre system. His death sparked an uprising by other detainees.
