Solidarity demo at Denise McNeil's bail hearing, 25/01/11

Denise McNeil, one of the "Yarl's Wood 3" who have been in prison for over a year for taking part in a hunger strike at Yarl's Wood immigration prison, has a bail hearing this Tuesday 25th January from 10am at IAC Hatton Cross, York House, 2/3 Dukes Green Avenue, Feltham, Middlesex, TW14 0LS (travel directions here). We really want to show alot of support for her inside and outside the court.

Hunger strike at Campsfield immigration prison, 02/08/10

Some detainees at Campsfield immigration prison near Oxford have been on hunger strike since the evening of Tuesday 2nd August. Here is the statement that they released, entitled "Unlawful Detention of Detainees":

147 detainees are staging a protest by refusing meals at Campsfield immigration removal centre. The protest erupted as a result of the treatment of detainees in detention centres especially for people who have been detained for a long period of time. We continue to refuse meals indefinitely for our voices to be heard.

Suspension of Yarl's Wood hunger strike, 19/03/10

The following is a statement from the Yarl's Wood hunger strikers:

This is to inform the authorities and the public that the on-going hunger strike is to be suspended on the 19 March 2010 at 9.00 am. We are giving the authorities and immigration the chance to look at all the issues raised before and during the strike. We are hoping that management at Serco will review problems at Yarl’s Wood. Also, we expect immigration to carefully look at the cases of women held at the detention centre.

Protest outside Yarl's Wood, Sunday 14th March

Yarl's Wood Migrant Solidarity are calling a demonstration at midday on Sunday, 14 March in solidarity with the women on hunger strike in Yarl’s Wood Immigration Removal Centre. We join these women in their protest against the detention of migrants. We support their bravery and we oppose immigration laws that restrict the freedom of movement of those in need.

Solidarity demo with Harmondsworth hunger strikers

Detainee Solidarity London is calling for a demo this Saturday at Harmondsworth in solidarity with the 55 detainees on hunger strike since Tuesday 2nd March.

At any one time, over 2500 people are in immigration detention in the UK. Some have been detained for months, others for years. We call for the immediate closure of all detention centres and stand in solidarity with all those in Harmondsworth, Yarl's Wood and elsewhere resisting this barbaric practice.
