Joint Uk/French Detention Centre planned in Calais

According to a report of "The Times" today, a joint Anglo-French detention centre is being planned for Calais to hold hundreds of migrants gathering near the Channel port.

As the report continues, "Phil Woolas, the Immigration Minister, disclosed proposals to tackle the surge of migrants, many from Afghanistan and Iraq, at Channel ports hoping for a new life in Britain. "

Activists blockade Tinsley House Detention Centre to stop Charter Deportation

Anti-deportation campaigners tried to stop the collective expulsion of approximately 50 Iraqi refugees from the UK today . Campaigners locked themselves to the gate of Tinsley House detention centre at Gatwick airport, where some of the deportees are being held, in an attempt to prevent the forcible deportation.

Initiatives from the UK, France and Belgium are currently preparing a protest camp in Calais, France, which will take place from June 23-29th, including a transnational demonstration on Saturday June 27th.

In the last 15 years Calais became a symbol of the European border regime and repression against migrants, forcing thousends of migrants each year to sleep rough in the woods around Calais, denying them basic rights and humanitarian support.

Dale Farm: Facing Eviction

If as now expected the case of Dale Farm is heard by the UK supreme court, the issue at test will be whether a policy of physical exclusion, which has afflicted Gypsy life in Britain for generations, should finally be checked.

Since the siege of Dale Farm commenced, public expenditure on anti-Gypsy measures in England has amounted to well over 200 million euro. That’s more than the entire outlay during the EU Decade of Roma Inclusion.

Repression against Refugees and Supporters in Northern France (again)

Fourteen people were arrested by police Wednesday morning in
Norrent-Fonts:

Thirteen Eritrean migrants, arrested at the camp, and a volunteer of the
association of Terre D’errances. Monique A. was arrested at her home, her house was searched. She was taken away and locked up with migrants at the center of administrative detention Coquelle. For several years, she has assisted migrants. This is what earned her her arrest.

Invitation à une réunion d'organisation à Calais les 7 et 8 mars.

Ces derniers mois, des militants de France et du Royaume-Uni se sont
rencontrés pour discuter de quelle manière il serait possible de renforcer la solidarité transfrontalière avec les migrants le long de la côte Nord de la France. Nous avons décidé de monter un camp de protestation transnational à la fin du mois de juin à Calais. Le camp a pour but de mettre en lumière la situation des migrants à la frontière et d'établir un réseau de solidarité efficace.

In the last few months activists from France and the UK have met to discuss ways to increase transnational solidarity with migrants along the coast of northern France. We have decided to hold a transnational protest camp in Calais at the end of June. The camp aims to highlight the situation of the migrants on the border and establish a strong network of solidarity.
